Which houseplant is the easiest?
The ZZ plant and the snake plant top the list. They store water in their leaves and roots, so watering once every three weeks is enough. A spot further from the window suits them fine.
The Chinese money plant and the spider plant are just as forgiving, and both are safe for your cat or dog.
Keeping it easy
- Only water when the top few centimetres of soil are dry.
- Never leave water standing in the outer pot.
- Give the pot a quarter turn every month so it grows straight.

Questions about these plants
Which houseplant survives anything?
The ZZ plant and the snake plant come closest. They go weeks without water and are happy in a dark corner too.
How often should I water an easy plant?
Usually once every one to three weeks. Check with your finger first: if the soil is dry a few centimetres down, it can have water.
Do they need feeding?
A little plant food once a month from April to September is plenty. None in winter.
